One of my favorite childhood memories is catching lightning bugs in the summer. This is the time of the year when lightning bugs sparkle in the night. I was inspired to make this lightning bug craft with the kids.
SUPPLIES:
- Yellow Tissue Paper
- Black Card Stock
- Contact Paper
- Glue
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
Either you or your child can cut the tissue paper in strips and then into smaller squares

Next take your contact paper and lay it sticky side up, it’s easier if you tape down the corners to hold it in place. Then you can have them decorate the contact paper with the tissue paper pieces. When that’s finished take another piece of contact paper and lay it down on top of your contact paper to seal it. Smooth out the contact paper for any bumps and then cut out a teardrop shape for the body of the firefly.
Cut out the shapes for the head and wings of your bug.
Finally you’ll glue the head onto your tissue paper collage you cut out, then glue on the wings to finish your suncatcher. Add some tape and hang them on your window!
