The Mitten

STORYTIME
I read The Mitten by Jan Brett.

Use masking tape on the floor to make a mitten shape.
As I read the story a child got into the mitten.
At the end of the book, the kids all pretended to sneeze and roll out of the circle.
 GAMES
Sequencing: Use the animal and mitten printables to sequence the story with your child. I found patterns at A Teacher without a ClassThe Mitten Patterns and Animals Color the animals first and then cut them out. Can you remember what order the animals went into the mitten?

Hat and Mitten Game: (matching shapes) Found at ChildCareLand

Toss the Mitten:  Stuff a few pairs of socks into all those mittens around your house {if your house is anything like mine there are lonely little mittens all over the place!}. Pull out a laundry basket and play a game of ‘Toss the Mitten’ with your tot and see how many mittens you can get into the basket.

SONGS
The Mitten
Tune: The Farmer in the Dell

The mitten on the ground,

{Continue singing filling in the names of the other animals in the book}

Eskimos and Polar Bears

CRAFTS
I found a cute packet from TPT about the Arctic Region.  We made the Polar Bear from it.
Then wrote the favorite thing each child enjoyed about polar bears.

I used a template from another project to use to make the Eskimos.
The kids added the cotton balls around the face.
Inside the jacket they wrote their favorite fact that they learned about Eskimos.

BOOKS
Mama, Do You Love Me? by Barbara M. Joosse
If You Were a Penguin by Wendell and Florence Minor
Without You by Sarah Weeks

SONGS

Tune:  “The Bear Went Over the Mountain”

The polar bear jumped into the water,

The polar bear jumped into the water,
The polar bear jumped into the water
And what do you think he did?

He started to swim around,

He started to swim around,
He started to swim around,
And what do you think he saw?

He saw a great big fish,

He saw a great big fish,
He saw a great big fish
And what do you think he did?

He caught that great big fish,

He caught that great big fish,
He caught that great big fish
And what do you think he did?

He ate the great big fish,

He ate the great big fish,
He ate the great big fish
And what do you think he did?

He climbed up on the snow,

He climbed up on the snow,
He climbed up on the snow
And what do you think he did?

He took a great big nap,

He took a great big nap,
He took a great big nap,
Then what do you think he did?

He jumped into the water!

Happy New Year

This year we made party hats and shakers to celebrate the New Year.
Shaker's were made from raisin boxes. I spray painted them silver.
This kids put beans on the inside and sequins on the outside.
Note: I taped the boxes up so the beans didn't come out.
Glue large pop-cicle sticks on the back.

 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
