Beach Fun

FLIP FLOPS

Flip-flops are the perfect manipulative for this summer-themed center. Provide a container of assorted pairs of flip-flops (or set out pairs of flip-flop cutouts made from scrapbook paper).
A youngster sorts the flip-flops into matching pairs.

 BEACH BALLS

This colorful craft is pefect to use during your beach unit.
To make a beach ball, a student tears tissue paper of different colors into small pieces.  (or cut out different color construction paper shapes).
Then he glues the pieces to his beach ball cutout, using one color for each section.

What will I see at the Zoo?

KANGAROO
Kangaroo hugs:  Basically you face your partner and wrap your arms around each other – then they both jump and the big person picks up the little person!  (I did not have children do Kangaroo hugs with each other.)  Of course they love it!

MONKEY

Five Little Monkeys
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!
(Sing with 4,3,2,1 little monkeys) then...
No little monkeys jumping on the bed
None fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
Put those monkeys back in bed!

I wrapped paper around a juice box to make a 'bed' and glued on a cotton ball for the 'pillow'.

Signs of Summer

Materiels needed:
8 popsicle sticks
circle cutter (or you can hand cut)
construction paper
(I precut pieces to make it easier for the kids to put them together)
wiggle eyes
glue
I glued the popsicle sticks together to make it look like lattice.
Older kids can do this by themselves.
The kids made their insects by glueing on wings, antennas and eyes.
Let them glue their insects anywhere on the lattice.
They can add leaves too.
